EDF-ESDR "DermaCompass" Webinar
Young Researchers and Skin Science: Why Are Clinician–Scientist Partnerships Important?
Date: Thrusday, June 11th, 2026, 13:30 CET
Platform: Pre-recorded program for EDF Website
1. Executive Summary
The goal is to create a 45-minute recorded session (branded as Dermacompassast) that highlights the intersection of clinical work and scientific research. The session will feature early career researchers presenting their work and discussing their career paths to inspire others to make the leap into skin science.
2. Program Structure
- Total Duration: 45 minutes.
- Format: Pre-recorded (to be shared on the EDF website rather than a live stream).
- Junior Presentations: Three (3) junior researchers will give science-focused presentations.
- Focus: The presentation should cover both the scientific findings and the personal journey (the "how and why" of their transition into research).
- Panel Discussion: A panel will provide commentary and engage in an exchange regarding the speakers' journeys and the broader landscape of skin science. The target audience should also include senior EDF members whose support will be needed for the juniors to be released from clinical duties to attend scientific meetings like the ESDR.
3. Participants & Composition
Total Panel/Member Count: 6 members.
Hosts: Neil Rajan, Su Lwin, and Alex Navarini.
ECRS :
- Kasia Klonowska (Poland), kklonowska@ibch.poznan.pl – Ultrasensitive mutation profiling in human skin tumour syndromes

- Kelsey Van Straalen (Netherlands) vanstraalen@erasmusmc.nl à Spatial trancriptomics of HS multiomics
Role of ECRs: To provide the "realworld" perspective of navigating a research career from a clinical background.
Timings : Each 8 minute talk with slides followed by 5 min questions, then joint panel questions.
4. Logistics & Future Planning
Hosting: The content will be hosted on the European Dermatology Forum (EDF) & DermaCompass website.
