Günter Burg EDF Award for Educational Innovation

The European Dermatology Forum (EDF) announces the “Günter Burg EDF Award for Educational Innovation”, recognizing innovative and impactful initiatives in undergraduate education in dermatology and venereology.

Perceptions of dermatology and venereology as a specialty are often shaped during medical school. Through this award, the EDF seeks to encourage and celebrate initiatives that strengthen teaching, enhance knowledge transfer, and increase the visibility of dermatology and venereology within undergraduate medical education.

The award honors individuals, teams, or institutions whose educational innovations have made a meaningful contribution and difference to student learning and engagement, helping to inspire the next generation of dermatologists and venereologists.

Award

The prize includes:

  • €1’000 cash award & award certificate.

  • Invitation to attend the next EDF Annual meeting in Montreux, Switzerland (one person).

  • Two nights’ accommodation at the Hotel Suisse Majestic Montreux, Switzerland (one person).

  • Opportunity to give a short presentation on the awarded initiative at the EDF Annual meeting.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from:

  • Only individuals can apply or be proposed by EDF members.

Selection criteria include:

  • Innovative teaching in undergraduate dermato-venerology, using new approaches and technologies improving learning processes.

  • Improved learning initiatives that enhance already existing systems (e.g. Europe) or address unmet needs and gaps in teaching (e.g. global dermatology teaching in less developed countries).

  • Innovative digital or online teaching tools for dermato-venereology residents.

  • Organizational innovations in dermato-venereology education.

  • Other initiatives that enhance knowledge transfer in dermatology.

Application

Applications should include (Online Form):

  • Name of the applicant.

  • Position (e.g., student, teacher, collaborator) and affiliation.

  • Description of educational initiative and justification why the initiative deserves to be awarded.

  • Peer-review publications, and/or printed educational material, and/or survey of students, and/or other evaluation form from relevant authorities/organizations.

  • Recommendation from at least one EDF member.
